The CityTree as part of the \u201cFair.Kiez\u201d project<\/p><\/h3><\/div>

On Friday, we inaugurated the very first CityTree<\/a><\/strong><\/em> in a public space in Berlin together with the district mayor Clara Herrmann<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. Positioned gracefully on the Admiral Bridge<\/a><\/strong><\/em> in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a>, the moss filter provides up to 5,000m3 of fresh air every hour right in the heart of Berlin. Air filtering is not the only function, however: as the German news magazine Tagesschau<\/a><\/strong><\/em> reported, the CityTree was combined with noise measuring technology for the first time.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The event was opened on 28.07.2023 on the Admiral Bridge by the district mayor Clara Hermann.

Together with the <\/span>Department of Business Development<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, the <\/span>Streets and<\/em> Parks Department<\/em><\/strong>,<\/span><\/a> and<\/span> the <\/span>Department of Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a> (Fairkiez.Berlin<\/a><\/strong><\/em>), we have now developed a device for measuring behaviour-related noise in conjunction with our <\/span>moss filter<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> as part of the “Fair.Kiez” project<\/strong>. <\/span>This collaboration has borne fruit in the form of a cutting-edge device that measures noise stemming from human behavior<\/span>: the \u201c<\/span>CityTree<\/a><\/strong><\/em> Noise Monitor\u201d (<\/span>Fairkiez.Berlin<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

The overarching objective is for the <\/span>CityTree<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>to become a beacon of awareness during twilight and nocturnal hours<\/span> from 10 PM to 4 AM. <\/span>This mission aims to mitigate noise levels by captivating attention through vivid display information and illuminating signals. The noise monitor’s crimson glow comes to life when sound levels breach the 55 dB threshold, sustaining its illumination for over 10 minutes. This visual prompt not only sensitizes individuals to the issue of noise pollution but also encourages them to dial down their decibels and respect the peaceful repose of the community’s <\/span>nighttime<\/span> hours.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The necessity for regulated noise levels is grounded in the bustling ambiance of the <\/span>Admiral Bridge<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a>, particularly<\/span> during the night time. <\/span>As a vital conduit connecting Fraenkelufer and Planufer along the serene Landwehr<\/span> Canal<\/span>, this iconic bridge assumes the role of a popular rendezvous, particularly in the summer (<\/span>Berlin.de<\/a><\/strong><\/em>). The <\/span>Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> district, driven by an unyielding commitment to enhancing residents’ quality of life, embraces these innovative strides (<\/span>Berlin.de<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a>).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Enhancing its noise-alert capabilities, the <\/span>CityTree<\/a><\/em><\/strong> demonstrates its environmental strength by efficiently filtering significant amounts of fine particulate matter from the air.<\/span>\u00a0 It captures up to 82% of the <\/span>fine dust<\/a><\/strong><\/em> in the immediate vicinity and simultaneously cools the air by up to 4\u00b0 Celsius. This outcome is comparable to 67 young trees, which can generate fresh breathing air for about 10,000 people every hour, as shared by <\/span>District mayor Herrmann<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a> (<\/span>Fairkiez.Berlin<\/a><\/em><\/strong>).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Amidst these eco-friendly efforts, the <\/span>Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> district stands out as a strong supporter against nois<\/span>e <\/span>pollution. It also plays a key role in promoting sustainable, city-friendly tourism\u2014a clear statement that echoes throughout this lively city (<\/span>Fairkiez.Berlin<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a>).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
