“Right in the middle, closer to you” \u2013 that’s the motto of the city of Griesheim. Located centrally in the Rhine-Main area<\/a>, it offers “diverse recreational opportunities […] right at your doorstep”<\/a>, as stated in the welcome message<\/a> by Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

“Instantly” at the doorstep of residents and visitors of the “largest city in the southern Hessian district of Darmstadt-Dieburg”<\/a>, the “extensive construction work at the Georg-Sch\u00fcler-Anlage for the ‘Green Room'”<\/a> was also completed in January.<\/p>\n

Greening and Revitalizing the City Center<\/strong><\/h5>\n

With this, pedestrians are now closer to cooler and fresher air, as part of the so-called ‘Green Room,’ the ‘new shade-providing community meeting place in the city center’ of Griesheim, also includes the WallBreeze<\/strong><\/em><\/a>!<\/p>\n

“The city of Griesheim is making an important contribution to climate protection with the implementation of these two sustainable projects. The freestanding moss walls on-site will absorb polluted air and convert harmful substances into biomass and fresh air in the future”, emphasized Lukas Reinelt from the Griesheim Environmental Office, “who is involved in climate change adaptation among other things”.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

In October<\/a> and November of last year, initial (preparatory) construction measures<\/a> for the Georg-Sch\u00fcler-Anlage and the vegetation walls of the “Green Room”<\/a> began, as reported by the Rhein Main Verlag<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a>. Additionally, the “aged cobblestone pavement was removed and replaced with new eco-paving”.<\/a> This paving is based on “larger joints, allowing for water permeability and seepage, […] and provides barrier-free accessibility due to its level surface”.<\/a><\/p>\n

As the 30,000-inhabitant city states<\/a>, the “moss walls” were also installed on-site in January. These utilize the “natural ability of living”<\/a> moss<\/strong><\/em><\/a> “to filter fine dust and cool the surrounding air. Furthermore, the vertical greening serves as noise protection”<\/a>. Due to current weather conditions, the WallBreeze do not yet have the essential moss mats<\/a>. These, or rather the small high-performance plants, are currently residing in our moss farm in Bestensee near Berlin. The “moss panels will be delivered as temperatures rise and hung in the existing wall frames”<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“Due to the dark and cold season, the ‘Green Room’ at the Georg-Sch\u00fcler-Anlage currently appears very bleak and barren. Those who look into their own garden or observe public green spaces will see a comparable image. However, this will definitely change in the spring with the final planting, warmer temperatures, and the resulting colorful blooming of the plants”, said the municipal project manager, Diana Richter, in the latest press release.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

For the full development and presentation of the ‘Green Room,’ in addition to the high-performance mosses, “plane trees will be planted in the planting beds in front of the currently green vegetation walls in the coming months, which will develop into a ‘green roof’ and provide shade for residents during the hot summer months”.<\/a><\/p>\n

An all-around successful renewal. After all, as stated not only in the city brochure: “Griesheim offers space for everyone: children and adults, employees and entrepreneurs, young and old. Together, they form the city”.<\/a> We echo the mayor’s call: “Come and experience our city!”<\/a> Because, as ECHO Online (S\u00fcdhessen)<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a> writes, all residents are warmly invited to “relax in the ‘Green Room’ in Griesheim,” the “open-air meeting place”.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

Sustainable development projects in the city center<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The “Green Living Room” and the moss walls as fine dust filters not only “invite people to linger” but “both are intended to increase the quality of stay for visitors, have a positive impact on the climate, and create ecological niches in the middle of the city”.<\/a> Also worth highlighting: “For the first time, the area at the Georg-Sch\u00fcler-Anlage has been planned to be barrier-free”,<\/a> allowing people with mobility restrictions direct access<\/a>. Therefore, the project was financially supported by the Hessian state program “Future City Center”.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
