A celebratory Awards Ceremony in Berlin<\/strong><\/p><\/h3><\/div>

Climate change becomes tangible when urban heat islands affect everyday life or extreme weather events pose immediate challenges for cities. The 2026 Federal \u201cBlauer Kompass\u201d Award<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, marking its tenth anniversary, demonstrated impressively that effective prevention and climate adaptation can be achieved locally.<\/p>\n

The best projects for climate preparedness and adaptation \u2013 10 years of the \u201cBlauer Kompass\u201d Award<\/a><\/em><\/strong>: The celebratory awards ceremony has now taken place in Berlin. Our co-founder and Managing Director, Peter S\u00e4nger, attended the event and personally accepted Green City Solutions\u2019 nomination certificate.<\/p>\n<\/div>

A strong signal for nature-based Climate Adaptation<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Federal \u201cBlauer Kompass\u201d Award<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is regarded as \u201cGermany\u2019s highest state award for exemplary climate adaptation\u201d<\/a> and is jointly presented by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN)<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and the German Environment Agency (UBA)<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In its anniversary year,<\/strong> the competition received a record 488 entries<\/strong><\/a>. Green City Solutions\u2019 inclusion among the 25 nominated projects in the “Private and Municipal Enterprises”<\/em><\/strong><\/a> category, with our project\u201cMoss-based climate resilience: bio-digital solutions for heat and pollutant reduction”<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, affirms our approach: nature-based climate adaptation and measurable climate resilience are integral to modern urban development. At the heart of our work is our holistic fresh-air concept, which provides targeted relief in places where people are particularly affected by summer heat and fine-particle pollution.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Six outstanding projects recognised<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Alongside the recognition of all 25 nominees, six winning projects were announced at the event. Each will receive prize money of \u20ac25,000, as well as national media support.<\/p>\n

Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider <\/a><\/em><\/strong>said: “This summer\u2019s heat has shown us how important it is to take a forward-looking approach to climate change. Fortunately, we are not starting from scratch; we can learn from successful projects across the country. The many strong applications for the \u2018Blauer Kompass\u2019 Award demonstrate this. It is encouraging to see the level of commitment in so many parts of the country to ensuring that our home remains a good place to live, even as the climate changes. With the \u2018Blauer Kompass\u2019, we recognise the best ideas and show what is possible\u2014inspiring even more people to follow their example.”<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThe awards ceremony took place on 17 September 2026 at the Federal Ministry for the Environment in Berlin. It was the highlight of the nationwide \u2018Week of Climate Adaptation\u2019, during which the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Centre for Climate Adaptation (ZKA), under the motto \u2018Working Together for Climate Adaptation\u2019, showcased the diversity of and strong commitment to climate adaptation through events across Germany.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>
