Moss Displays for the Marktplatz Galerie
The Marktplatz Galerie in Hamburg-Bramfeld is breaking new ground in terms of air quality and visitor comfort. Two innovative CityBreeze moss displays are now improving the microclimate in the Hanseatic city, purifying the air, and simultaneously providing a digital platform for information and advertising.

Moss Against Fine Dust and Heat
Each CityBreeze moss display combines an active vertical moss wall with a digital display screen. The living moss filters pollutants such as fine dust and ultrafine particles from the air while cooling it through evaporation effects. During a ten-second advertisement, more than 4,000 liters of fine-dust-laden air are purified. Thanks to intelligent sensor technology, the modules regulate their own supply and capture environmental data in real time.
We have already equipped numerous projects in indoor and outdoor spaces with our moss mats, integrated into urban furniture, and the associated technology. The Marktplatz Galerie is the first location in Hamburg to benefit from this technology.
A Sustainable Highlight for the Marktplatz Galerie
A CityBreeze with an active moss wall of approximately two square meters on one side and a large-format screen on the other welcomes visitors directly at the entrance of the Marktplatz Galerie. In the basement, another multifunctional moss display, integrated into a seating element, ensures a more pleasant indoor climate with fresh air and enhances the overall visitor experience.
The CityBreeze modules in the Marktplatz Galerie have the same cooling effect as approximately 42 trees.
“Since we cannot plant trees in our center, we had to come up with something else”, says Dennis Hartung-Mallon, Center Manager of the Marktplatz Galerie and Authorized Officer of Bruhn Living Places Management GmbH, which operates the center. “The Marktplatz Galerie is an important meeting point in the neighborhood. The ‘CityBreeze’ not only looks great but also enhances the quality of stay for everyone who works and shops here. At the same time, they make a real contribution to climate protection and provide passersby with relevant digital information. That convinced us.”

A Flagship Project for Clean Air: (Bruhn) Living Places
The Hermann Friedrich Bruhn Group operates as a project developer, property owner, manager, and asset manager of residential and commercial real estate, primarily in Hamburg. The focus is on mixed-use properties and neighborhoods. “The city of tomorrow is nothing new to us”, declares Bruhn Living Places Management GmbH, as they “see the bigger picture: the livable neighborhood, the long-term perspective, and the protection of our environment”.
Green City Solutions is a pioneer in sustainable air filtration using moss. We maximize the natural properties of living moss with the help of state-of-the-art IoT technology as well as innovative ventilation and irrigation systems. The particle filtration effect of our moss is about ten times higher than that of traditional greenery.
By combining nature with modern technology, we create innovative solutions for urban spaces, both indoors and outdoors, as highly effective and measurable measures against heat and pollutants. The integration of traditional greening elements to promote biodiversity, analog and digital information carriers, seating furniture, water tanks, as well as network technology or charging infrastructure, ensures multifunctional applications.
With the Marktplatz Galerie in Hamburg, another flagship project for clean air and sustainable innovation in indoor spaces has been realized.
