Spotting the CityTree of Putney/Wandsworth
Have you put your Christmas tree up yet?
In Putney, the “runaway Christmas tree is back for 2023” by Positively Putney! The “Positively Putney Business Improvement District (BID) is business-led and business-funded, working to improve and promote Putney town centre as a place to live, work, visit and invest” (source).
And while “causing (polite) chaos” and bringing some joy to Putney, they call everyone to “make sure to take any snaps and tag [them] and #shareourputney if you spot it whilst out and about”.
Well, we spotted the runway tree in front of the CityTree of Wandsworth Borough Council! Thus, the runway tree should have enjoyed some fresh air.

In Putney, London, the CityTree “makes a meal of Putney’s air pollution” (source) since 2020 as the council “has installed the tree in Putney High Street near its junction with Putney Bridge Road as part of a major ongoing improvement project for the town” (source). Cabinet member for finance, corporate resources and climate sustainability, Cllr Rory O’Broin, said in December 2020: “I’m delighted that this cutting-edge City Tree technology has come to Putney. We will monitor its effectiveness in absorbing air pollution on the High Street as part of our ongoing commitment to tackling climate change.” (source)
In 2021, the Council summarized: “Residents and visitors to Putney High Street are benefiting from cleaner air thanks to an innovative air purification system” (source) as in its first ten weeks of operation, the pioneering device purified 1.3 million cubic metres of air.
