CityBreeze for Northern Leipzig

Right in the north of Leipzig – at the corner of Georg-Schumann-Straße and Lützowstraße – a new highlight for climate resilience, comfort, and communication in public space is taking shape: Green City Solutions is installing a CityBreeze at the Gohlis Arkaden, in the classic version with an integrated bench and an initial project term of five years.

For more than 20 years, the Gohlis Arkaden have been a central destination in northern Leipzig—serving as a strong local supply hub within a growing urban neighborhood. As an established district center located at key public-transport interchanges and along the main arterial road Georg-Schumann-Straße, they are the go-to place in Gohlis for many people to shop or take care of everyday errands.

Digitalization and Climate Adaptation –
Why VICUS Is (Once Again) Choosing CityBreeze

At the Gohlis Arkaden, VICUS – positioning the site as an established district center – aims to strengthen the location’s sustainability by expanding the range of retail and services and modernizing its technical infrastructure.

Against this backdrop, VICUS Asset GmbH is once again partnering with Green City Solutions to further sharpen the site’s profile. Oliver Hegedüsch explains the decision as follows:

“The combination of sustainable digital infrastructure, smart climate impact, and an attractive place to stay aligns perfectly with our vision for the Gohlis Arkaden as a modern district center.
As an active, solution-oriented real estate manager, we specifically look for solutions that enhance public space while delivering immediate benefits to tenants and visitors. The CityBreeze brings together exactly what we are looking for at the Gohlis Arkaden: climate-effective greenery that noticeably mitigates local heat, and a digital communication surface that enables us to inform our visitors in a targeted way — from wayfinding maps and event information to special offers from our tenants.”

More Comfort and Quality of Stay

In the Gohlis-Süd district, the shopping center is focusing on sustainable digital equipment and improving the overall quality of stay. Even today, the Gohlis Arkaden offer numerous shaded seating areas for breaks – even on hot days, as Puls Leipzig reports.

The new CityBreeze complements this offering by

  • improving air quality,
  • noticeably reducing the local ambient temperature through evaporative cooling,
  • serving at the same time as a comfortable seating option, and
  • functioning as an information totem.

This creates a multifunctional place to breathe, wait, meet — and stay informed.

Digital Communication Surface

In addition to naturally improving the microclimate through living mosses, the CityBreeze features a digital screen on its reverse side, enabling real-time, targeted content delivery. At the Gohlis Arkaden, this can include wayfinding maps and on-site orientation, event information and local activities, notices about the weekly market at the corner of Lützowstraße and Georg-Schumann-Straße, and other relevant content. This is made possible by climAD, Germany’s first green DOOH advertising network.

Why CityBreeze Is a Great Fit for Leipzig

Leipzig is growing and becoming denser — raising expectations for climate adaptation, quality of stay, and sustainable urban development. This is exactly where CityBreeze comes in: As a climate-active, green urban furniture solution with an integrated digital communication surface, it brings cooling, cleaner air, and relevant information to where people are on the move — at public-transport hubs, in vibrant shopping centers, and in lively neighborhoods.

From Concept to Climate Impact

For Green City Solutions, the CityBreeze installation at the Gohlis Arkaden seamlessly aligns with the mission of making cities more livable through natural, climate-active, digital solutions. The well-integrated shopping center combines high footfall, excellent public-transport access, and a diverse surrounding area — ideal conditions for ensuring the multifunctional biotech filters and digital content reach many people and deliver impact where it matters. The moss filter and cooling solution provide real added value for everyone who shops, transfers, or simply takes a break. In this way, ecological benefits and modern digital communication are brought together — and the long-term contract underscores that, at the Gohlis Arkaden, green, livable urban futures and digital communication are not seen as a short-term initiative, but as a core pillar of ongoing development.

More climate-active, more attractive, and more digitally visible districts, shopping destinations, or public squares?
