Fresh air at the University of Graz

The Citytree has been in place at Karl-Franzens University Graz since April 2021, between the redesigned university library and the Faculty of Law. There, it will provide purified and cooled air for half a year and offer students a place to rest and meet, where they can cool their smoking heads.

The project, which we are carrying out with Next Incubator, the independent innovation platform of Energie Steiermark, is a premiere: the first time a CityTree has been installed in Austria.

“We at next-incubator promote and develop sustainable business models. The combination of living moss and modern IoT technology in the CityTree made us curious. We are sure that there is a need for more nature in the city and see a lot of potential in combining natural solutions with technology to enhance urban spaces. The first CityTree for Austria here at the University of Graz provides exciting data on environmental and air quality, which we are continuously evaluating.”
