Nine Brands Making Climate Action Visible – with climAD
On 20 June 2026, the international #ShowYourStripes Day took place – and climAD by Green City Solutions was right at the heart of it: Nine sustainability-driven brands brought the climate crisis literally into the public sphere. Across 30 digital advertising screens in shopping malls throughout Germany. With real impact.
What Is #ShowYourStripes?
The Warming Stripes were developed by British climate scientist Ed Hawkins of the University of Reading. Since 2018, the coloured stripes have visualised global average temperatures year by year – from cool blue for earlier decades to deep red for the present – and, as Campaign Germany notes, the visualisation is considered “one of the most far-reaching forms of climate communication”. No numbers. No explanation. And yet unmistakable.
Every year around 20 June, the Stripes are displayed worldwide on buildings, buses and screens. Ecosia puts it: “They are one of the most well-known and accessible ways to illustrate climate change – without any numbers or further explanation” – “simple, yet powerful”.
A Coalition for the Climate
“Performance meets responsibility”: For this year’s initiative, nine impact-oriented brands were given the opportunity to run their campaigns on climAD’s green out-of-home advertising network – pro bono, with a media value of approximately €800,000 and a reach of 63 million contacts. Participating brands include Polarstern, edding, HABA, LichtBlick, Gudrun Sjödén, UmweltBank, Ecosia, Tony’s Chocolonely and EthikBank.
Each brand translated the Warming Stripes into its own brand world. edding, for instance, made the climate stripes look as though they had been drawn with markers – combining the visual with a tangible sustainability message: every marker barrel made from recycled aluminium saves the company approximately 90 % CO₂e compared to using primary aluminium.
LichtBlick used the campaign to encourage consumers to switch to renewable electricity. Campaign Manager Nadine Usadel explains: “With this campaign asset, we motivate people to switch to electricity from solar and wind energy”.

Advertising That Does More Than Turn Heads
What further sets climAD apart from other DOOH networks is the technology behind it. The digital advertising columns developed by Green City Solutions are fitted on the reverse side with living moss air filters. Throughout the campaign, these filters actively cool the surrounding air, capture harmful particulate matter and reduce local CO₂ levels.
HABA put it succinctly: “climAD […] combines advertising with genuine environmental impact”.
That is precisely our ambition: to create visibility with impact – not only in terms of content, but also physically, within the urban environment.
Climate Communication That Works
As MARES Media highlights: “A reach of 63 million contacts demonstrates the potential of coordinated DOOH campaigns”. The ShowYourStripes Day shows what is possible when brands with genuine conviction come together. Digital out-of-home advertising is more than just a channel – deployed thoughtfully, it can be part of the solution: DOOH “can not only address climate protection as a topic, but also implement it resource-efficiently in the way campaigns are delivered”. Resource-efficient, high-reach and with a direct positive effect on air quality in our cities.
MARES Media concludes: “For companies looking to communicate their sustainability strategy, DOOH offers a channel that combines credibility with visibility”.
We welcome every brand that chooses to join this journey.
