INDUSTRY & PRODUCTION

WITH MOSS AGAINST THE DEVELOPMENT OF DUST AND HEAT

At some workplaces and during some work steps, it is almost impossible to avoid polluting the air. The surroundings of large industrial machines, hydraulic presses or kilns have an increased particle load. This makes working conditions more difficult for the workers and also harms the climate.

Our moss filters also work in places where you would hardly expect to find living moss. The biofilters have also proved their worth in very hot and polluted conditions and have noticeably improved and cooled the air. Workers are enthusiastic about the fresh air dispenser.

A DAILY HALL OF FRESH AIR

Case study: production hall

Since the beginning of September 2021, a CityTree has been used in an industrial environment for the first time: In the production hall of the manufacturer Refratechnik Ceramics in Melle, where refractory systems for industrial furnaces are produced. A high density of fine dust cannot be completely avoided here, hence the use of the moss filter. The CityTree was initially placed near the tunnel kiln, where the air pollution is particularly strong and the temperatures particularly warm.
Every day, the CityTree can clean an air volume of over 60,000 m³ here. This means that the air in the hall with an area of 6,000 m² is completely circulated and filtered several times in one day. The daily schedule was adjusted so that more air is filtered during working hours than on days off in order to minimise energy consumption and make optimal use of the technology.

Thanks to the special air quality sensor technology, the special benefit and performance of the CityTree is also measured and displayed. From September 2021 to February 2022, the CityTree was able to filter an air volume equivalent to that of 310 hot air balloons. In the process, the moss bound fine dust and other particles equivalent to those from over 2,800 smoked cigarettes.

PLACE OF USE:
1x CityTree in the interior, industrial production hall of Refratechnik Ceramics in Melle, Germany.

TIMEFRAME:
Since September 2021

PROBLEM SOLUTION:
Reduction of fine dust pollution and high temperatures in the production hall.

STATEMENT:
“In our company, refractory systems for industrial furnaces are produced. During the processing of fireclay, a high level of fine dust pollution is characteristic and unfortunately cannot be completely avoided. In addition, it is quite warm in the area of the large furnaces, especially in summer. In order to reduce the fine dust pollution and at the same time lower the ambient temperature, the CityTree was newly installed as a pilot project in our kiln plant in September 2021. The employees were thrilled with the noticeably better air and the cooling effect of the CityTree.”
