Hereford is already the fifth city in the UK to rely on the innovative technology

In the city of Hereford in the west of England, three regenerative moss filters will soon provide clean and fresh air. The City Council has just committed to installation in March 2022. The biotech filters clean the air of pollutants and fine dusts. What makes them special is that the filter material grows on the dirt in the air and does not generate any filter waste. This is made possible by the combination of natural mosses and IoT technology. The mosses can thus clean up to 82 percent of the fine dust from the air and cool the ambient air down by up to 4 degrees and additionally humidify it.

High demand for sustainable, green solutions for a vibrant & livable city

Hereford now joins Newcastle, Luton, Southampton and London, which are already improving the air in the UK with moss filters from Green City Solutions. With Cork City in Ireland, there are now 15 CityTrees in the British Isles alone. In this region, the pressure to help improve air quality in the short term has been enormous since a tragic death of a nine-year-old girl recorded air pollution as the official cause of death, making the problem official. Green spaces and good air are the two pillars for livable conditions in highly dense, urban areas.

Three solutions, one centerpiece: The Moss Module

In addition to the CityTree, Green City Solutions has two other outdoor solutions that have an immediate, demonstrable effect on the microclimate: The CityBreeze and the WallBreeze. The CityBreeze combines natural air filtration with digital presentation technology. On one side is a green, vitalizing moss wall with active filter technology and on the other is a 75 inch LCD screen. This makes the CityBreeze the first out-of-home sign that cools the ambient air instead of heating it up additionally. The WallBreeze is the solution for the facade and creates fresh air on a large scale. Thanks to the modular design of the moss filter, it fits on any wall and can be integrated into existing facades without costly retrofitting. Common to all solutions is the moss module, which consists of ventilation & irrigation, smart sensor technology and one dense green moss mat each. The product diversification completed this year and a fresh investment guarantee that many more square meters of active moss will be added to European cities in 2022 – and to interiors in the future.
